Category: EDM Playlist

I apologize for not posting in a while. The last two posts took quite a bit out of me and sometimes it’s hard to muster up the energy to write something. However, to make up for the lack of content, I will attempt to post at least three times this week (fingers crossed!).

This post in particular is very special to me because I am sharing with you the first EDM playlist I ever made public. This playlist predates my blog by nine months and would only have been seen if you saw my Facebook Note way back then. Remember those? Probably not. So I have decided to resurface the playlist and bring you guys on a trip down memory lane.

One of the smartest things I ever did was create a Google Music account. Little did I know at the time, the account now serves as the only record of my EDM music collection from before January of 2012. I don’t really want to get into it because it was one of the saddest moments of my life, but I did in fact delete my entire music library on accident.

Anyway, every now and then I check the account to refresh my memory with old songs I used to listen to. And what did I find this time around? A playlist that I dubbed “Electronic Dance Music For Beginners” in March of 2011.

The playlist is an absolutely stellar depiction of what was popular in the EDM world back then (well at least for me) and serves as a pretty awesome personal benchmark. I can’t remember exactly why I decided to post the playlist, but I’m glad I did. It marks the day I decided to become a tastemaker and really the day this blog began.

You’re a fool if you don’t know every ones of these by heart. Enjoy! Also, Deadmau5 was the shiiiiiiiiiiiit!

  1. Steve Angello – Knas
  2. Deadmau5 vs. Jelo – The Reward is Cheese
  3. Wolfgang Gartner – Space Junk
  4. Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix)

EDM Playlist 2/7/12

I did it again and I am sorry. It’s been much longer than a week since I posted, so I am making up for it with a ton of songs on this EDM playlist, as well as a few more big posts tonight.

If you didn’t already hear, someone stole my external hard drive, which means I lost about 600 songs. This has put a big damper on my music listening and has also greatly affected what I play in my sets. Regardless, come by my frat on Saturday if you want to see DJ Gummi Bear live this weekend!

I also was traveling all weekend with our wrestling team and had little time to fit in music sourcing between all of their tears. We got crushed!

Anyway, this week’s playlist features a whole host of EDM genres, including a new one – Moombahton! I listen to Moombahton pretty regularly on BBC Radio One, which I stream to my Android phone, but rarely hear a song worth posting about. Other genres in the playlist include Dubstep, Electro House, Progressive House, Techno and Trance. If you have been keeping up with this blog, then you know I have been on a Trance bender and you are in luck because there are three HUGE Trance tracks I have been waiting on that were just recently released!

The list is rather long, so I will feature a few and bold the ones I think are standouts on the playlist.

Must listens include “In My Mind (Axwell Mix),” which everyone remembers as the beautiful track no one knew during Swedish House Mafia’s set live from Madison Square Garden. Nicky Romero makes a huge comeback with “Generation 303,” and “George Square” is just as epic as I imagined it would be when I first heard it during Kyau & Albert’s TATW 400 set. Both “Must Be The Feeling” remixes are insane and I am surprised to say this is the first time Funkagenda has ever made one of my playlists. Also, if anyone else listen’s to Above & Beyond’s weekly podcast Trance Around The World, which you should, then you have also been highly anticipating the release of “Bloom” and “Phoenix From The Flames (Maor Levi Remix).”

Songs are in alphabetical order! A number of these songs don’t have the full length versions on YouTube, so if you want a song, let me know and I’ll email it to you.

  1. Acid As 303 (Club Mix) – Manuel De La Mare, ALex Kenji [Techno]
  2. Bloom – Norin & Rad [Trance]
  3. Breakin’ A Sweat (Zedd Remix) – Skrillex [Electro House]
  4. Cephid – Nima Nesta [Progressive House]
  5. Colours (Jerome Isma-Ae Remix) – Emma Hewitt [Progressive House]
  6. Generation 303 – Nicky Romero [Electro House]
  7. George Square – Steve Brian, David Berkeley [Trance]
  8. In My Mind (Axwell Mix) – Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl [Progressive House]
  9. Legions – Orjan Nilsen [Trance]
  10. Mpire – Moguai [Progressive House]
  11. Must Be The Feeling (Delta Heavy Remix) – Nero [Moombahton]
  12. Must Be The Feeling (Funkagenda Remix) – Nero [Progressive House]
  13. Phoenix From The Flames (Maor Levi Remix) – Boom Jinx [Trance]
  14. Rock Me – Chris Moody [Electro House]
  15. Secrets Of The Arpeggiator (Eric Farias Remix) – Michael White [Electro House]

  17. Veyron (Bassex Remix) – Lucky Date & Midnight Conspiracy [Dubstep]

EDM Playlist 1/25/12

I am a few days behind on my weekly playlist, so I created an extra large playlist with 20 songs and a variety of EDM genres for this week. These genres include Electro House, Progressive House, Techno, Trance, and Trap (?).

A TON of huge songs came out this week, including the highly anticipated “Spaceman” and “Eyes Wide Open.” My most anticipated song of two weeks ago (then called “Wimp”) “Cataleya” also came out this week.

I tried to find it online, but I have no idea what genre you would call “Original Don (Flosstradamus Remix).” The only thing I came across was Trap, which there is very little information about online. Also, “Reformation” is VERY HARD Trance. Most Trance that I listen to is soothing and melodic, but this track just goes hard in the paint.

Songs are in alphabetical order. Enjoy!

  1. Around The Sweet Tung Disposition (Deniz Koyu Edit) – Arty vs Axwell & Dirty South vs Deniz Koyu vs Eurythmics [Progressive House]
  2. Body Work (Lazy Rich Remix) – Morgan Page [Electro House]
  3. Can’t Stop Me (Club Mix) – Afrojack [Progressive House]
  4. Cataleya – Andrew Bennett & Strobe [Progressive House]
  5. Dyno – Mike Koglin, Genix [Trance]
  6. Eyes Wide Open – Dirty South & Thomas Gold [Progressive House]
  7. F U Betta (Chuckie Club Remix) – Neon Hitch [Electro House]
  8. My Feelings (Deniz Koyu Remix) – Yenson [Progressive House]
  9. Original Don (Flosstradamus Remix) – Major Lazer [Trap (?)]
  10. Over The Rainbow – Cosmic Gate & J Something [Trance]
  11. Puzzle Piece (Daniel Heatcliff’s Farewell Remix) – Space RockerZ, Tania Zygar [Trance]
  12. Reformation – Trance Arts & Sonic Element [Trance]
  13. Room 300 – Sebastian Krieg, Strobe & Danny Freakazoid [Progressive House]
  14. Sending My Love (Afrojack Edit) – Hard Rock Sofa, Swanky Tunes, R3hab [Electro House]
  15. Spaceman – Hardwell [Progressive House]
  16. Taste The Sun (Tom Fall Remix) – Alex Kunnari [Techno]
  17. We Gonna Rock – Quintino [Electro House]
  18. Welcome (Dem Slackers Remix) – Peking DuK, Stef K [Electro House]
  19. What Can We Do (A Deeper Love) (Third Party Remix) – Tiesto [Progressive House]
  20. You’re Not Alone (Gregori Klosman Remix) – Jared Dietch [Electro House]

Those of you that know me best know that I loooooove statistics. So of course, I put way too much time into this blog post instead of applying for jobs.

For those of you who have been following my playlists since the very beginning (sometime in July), I thought it would be interesting to find out which artists showed up most often among all of my playlists. I spent some time collecting this data, and the results are very interesting.

Several biases need to be addressed before I move on with this list:

  • My playlists span from July-present and one from March of last year
  • This is MY taste in music
  • I simply consume some artists’ music more based on how I found new songs
  • Some artists spent more time touring than producing during this time period
  • I am only including artists who showed up three or more times (Full list in Google Spreadsheet)
  • Hardwell and Tommy Trash put out more music than anyone else and it so happened that a lot of it was great
  • Notable absentees: Armin Van Buuren, Arty, Eric Prydz/Pryda, and Swedish House Mafia

Hopefully you haven’t heard some of these artists and this list inspires you look into their work. Anyone mentioned is a top DJ that deserves a listen.

1. Hardwell (7), Tommy Trash (7)

3.  Alesso (6), Gregori Klosman (6)

5. Cazzette (5), Kaskade (5)

7. Arno Cost (4), Avicii (4), Bassjackers (4), Chuckie (4), Deadmau5 (4), Fedde Le Grand (4), Knife Party (4), Laidback Luke (4), Leventina (4), Skrillex (4), Tiesto (4)

18. Above & Beyond (3), Afrojack (3), Basto (3), Dada Life (3), Deniz Koyu (3), Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike (3), FareOH (3), Hard Rock Sofa (3), Hook N Sling (3), Jerome Isma-Ae (3), Mat Zo (3), Lazy Rich (3), Nicky Romero (3), Patric La Funk (3), R3hab (3), Thomas Gold (3), Tristan Garner (3)

EDM Playlist 1/15/12

This week’s playlist features five different genres of EDM, including Drum & Bass (second time ever!), Dubstep, Electro House, House, and Progressive House, but no Trance (sad face). Unlike most playlist where I include songs mostly from within a week of its release or at least within a month, this week’s EDM Playlist features seven older songs that I have been listening to and seven new ones.

(I did some digging around blogs, which I never do, and found a couple of gems I missed throughout the year)

Included in the old songs are two tracks that I just recently discovered that probably should have made my Top 50 list of 2011. Those are “Crush On You (Knife Party Remix)” and “Raise Your Hands.” I don’t know how I had not heard them but they are ridic. “Return Of The Jedi” is also one I just discovered that could be the dirtiest Electro House (Complextro) track I have ever heard. And then there is “One More Time,” which I can safely say is the #1 song I cannot wait to drop in a set when I get back to school.

All of the new ones are sick as well. I would love to play “Evensong (Michael Woods Remix)” at a party.

Songs are listed in alphabetical order.

  1. Crush On You (Knife Party Remix) – Nero [Drum & Bass]
  2. Don’t Stop Believing (Felix Voya Remix) – Journey [Progressive House]
  3. Hey Hey (DF’s Attention Vocal Mix) – Dennis Ferrer [House]
  4. Love In Motion (Skrillex’s Funkt-Out Mix) – SebatiAn [Dubstep]
  5. One More Time – Mike Candys & Jack Holiday [House]
  6. Raise Your Hands – Matt Caseli & Danny Freakazoid [Progressive House]
  7. Return Of The Jedi – Darth & Vader [Electro House]

  1. Antidote (Tommy Trash Remix) – Swedish House Mafia vs. Knife Party [Electro House]
  2. Cascade – Tommy Trash [Electro House]
  3. Evensong (Michael Woods Remix) – Ostbahnhof & Ugo Platana [Progressive House]
  4. The One And Only – Quintino [Electro House]
  5. Prutataa (Dada Life Remix) – Afrojack & R3hab [Electro House]
  6. You’re Gonna Love Again (Extended Mix) – NERVO [Progressive House]
  7. 2012 (Twenty Twelve) (Instrumental Mix) – Fareoh & Archie V. [Progressive House]

EDM Playlist 1/10/12

So I am back with my first weekly EDM playlist in a while. I am definitely going to keep up from now on so I am not posting “monthly catch-up” playlists.

For those of you who like lyrics with your EDM, I apologize because this playlist includes mostly songs without lyrics, but give it a shot (five out of the 12 tracks have vocals). Nice mix of several genres

Small explanation about the organization of this blog… I plan on updating multiple times weekly with blog and podcast recommendations, as well as a variety of playlists (not just weekly collections of what’s new like this one). However, I do not like the more popular EDM blogs that seem to post just to meet a daily quota. I will not be posting individual songs, but I think that sourcing through a weeks worth of music gives people a better taste of what is worth a listen. Anyway here is the playlist in alphabetical order:

  1. Anima – Tim Mason [Progressive House]
  2. Another Day In Paradise (Bigroom Club Mix) – Ippytraxx & Massman [House]
  3. By All Means (Solarity Remix) – Boom Jinx & Andrew Bayer [Progressive House]
  4. Flashback (Gregori Klosman Remix) – Jochen Miller [Progressive House]
  5. Give It Up For Love (Club Mix) – EDX [Progressive House]
  6. Lifted (Mat Zo Remix) – Tritonal [Trance]
  7. Monotone (Organ Donors Remix) – Marcel Woods [Trance]
  8. Nammos – Denzal Park [Progressive House]
  9. Revolution – Leventina [Progressive House]
  10. Slam the Door – Zedd [Electro House]
  11. Tenderloin – Patric La Funk [Progressive House]
  12. Young Ones (Dem Slackers Remix) – Di-Rect [Progressive House]

December Catch-Up EDM Playlist

Another month has gone by and I have neglected to post an EDM playlist. Well, here are 25 EDM tracks you should listen to from December. Hopfuelly this blog will motivate me to post weekly like I used to. Per usual, the list includes songs from my four favorite EDM subgernes: Dubstep, Electro House, Progressive House and Trance.

I will highlight some songs since there are so many, but I suggest you listen to them all.

Bassive – Felguk: Felguk’s unique sound kills it on this refreshing Electro House track.

How Will I Know (VanHooft & Forver Kid Unofficial Remix) – Whitney Houston: Why aren’t there more amazing remixes with R&B diva’s voices?

Keep it Coming (Basto Remix) – Starkillers: The best voice in EDM gets a remix from up-and-coming Belgian house producer Basto. This guy could be the next Avicii if he keeps up his productions.

Levels (Skrillex Remix) – Avicii: I think he somehow made the “Levels” part better? Then he murders it with a filthy Dubstep drop.

Sending My Love (Cazzette’s Already Super Human Remix) – R3hab & Swanky Tunes: Cazette are a Dubstep/Electro House duo on Avicii’s label that are masterminds of the Electro House drop. Same holds true in this banger.

What Did I Do – Kele vs Sander Van Doorn: Definitely upset this song came out the day after I made my Top 50 list of 2011.

  1. Alive (Blinders Remix) – Dirty South & Thomas Gold [Progressive House]
  2. Bassive – Felguk [Electro House]
  3. Beautiful People (Disco Fries Remix) – Benny Benassi [Electro House]

  6. Don’t Turn on the Lights – Felix Cartal [Electro House]
  7. Full Room (Stefano Pain & Marcel Booty Remix) – Allen S [Progressive House]
  8. Heaven (Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike Remix) – Promise Land [Electro House]
  9. How Will I Know (VanHooft & Forever Kid Unofficial Remix) – Whitney Houston [Progressive House]
  10. Kameha – Gregori Klosman [Progressive House]
  11. Keep it Coming – Starkillers [Electro House]
  12. Keep it Coming (Basto Remix) – Starkillers [Progressive House]
